The social conventions in different situations have always interested me.
Take a walk from where I live down the street
and no two strangers would dream of acknowledging each other
yet a short distance on along a wooded trail
many people greet each other in some way.
I usually obey the conventions but sometimes the clown in me
wants to say hi to everyone on the street
and ignore those in the woods.

Perversity

human nature is perverse
it's aims often get converse
and this you can see
through examples quite diverse.
people crowd into the city
ooh they love the sense of community
but scrimp and save so they can afford
to get away at the slightest opportunity
they seek the wilderness or places where
people are hardly ever there
and make instant friends with someone
who warned them about a bear
then go to a shopping mall
wander round in spring or fall
and never say 'Hi' to anyone at all.
